Please send your CV and a covering letter outlining your experience and why you are interested in the role to Kimberley Fox – Kimberley.fox@mcp-law.co.uk.
If you would like to apply for a Training Contract, please see the information below and contact our Partner in charge of Trainee recruitment, Kimberley Fox.
Qualified?
We have amongst our ranks solicitors, trainee solicitors, legal executives, trainee legal executives and legal assistants. We pride ourselves on offering the full range of career opportunities. Our aim is to provide secure and well paid employment with good prospects for promotion while at the same time endeavouring to see that all of us work in a convivial environment.
We are expanding our firm and consequently we frequently have job opportunities for capable enthusiastic staff. We also seek established practitioners in any specialist area with a following.
Our practice is based in an attractive area of the country with good links to the capital. Housing prices are sensible, schooling is good and traffic is bearable.
Please do feel free to get in touch, even with the most tentative of enquiries. The Partner in charge of qualified recruitment is Andrew Davies.
If you are interested in enquiring about a possible career with MCP we would prefer you to contact us direct instead of employing a recruitment consultant. All such enquiries will be treated with the utmost confidence. The reason we ask this, is that the recruitment consultant's fees may be avoided and we would far prefer to share the equivalent with those who start work with us.
Training Contracts
MCP is authorised by the Law Society to employ trainee solicitors and we try to offer at least one position for trainees annually.
Why Choose MCP ?
We are a large long established but progressive firm and are continuing to expand. We offer training in a pleasant working environment and ensure that our trainees are very much part of the team. We have quality lawyers who you will work with. You will have the opportunity to work with members of the public through to national companies. Our training programme provides the opportunity to learn legal skills. Our continued success lies to an extent upon the quality of the trainee solicitors that we recruit and train within the firm. A number of our Partners and Associates started with us as trainees.
Academic Qualifications
As our practice is varied and the work often intellectually demanding, we expect the equivalent of three strong grades at "A" level and a first degree of at least 2.1. We will require an academic reference from your tutor or other appropriate person and a personal reference.
What We Expect From Our Trainees
We hope that our trainees will take full advantage of the many opportunities available with MCP. You will demonstrate intellect, enthusiasm, commitment and an ability to get on well with our clients, our staff and fellow professionals. We are looking for people with common sense, initiative and a mature outlook.
We prefer applicants to have a knowledge of and connection with East Anglia and to have a full clean driving licence. A sympathy with publicly funded work and with the rural community helps.
MCP is committed to offering equal opportunities. We monitor all applications for Training Contracts and welcome applications irrespective of sex, age, race, creed, ethnic origin, disability and sexual orientation.
The Training Contract
MCP often gives a legal assistant position to a prospective trainee solicitor which enables candidates to learn office practice and procedure. During the course of the Training Contract, you will be given hands on experience in a wide variety of legal practice both publicly funded and private.
MCP operates from Wisbech, Ely, King’s Lynn, Peterborough and Thetford in East Anglia and all appointments are to the firm and not any one particular office. You will have the opportunity of meeting with a number of other colleagues amongst our force of almost forty lawyers.
You will receive induction training within the first week of your joining the firm. This will include computer usage, health and safety, legal and administrative work.
Training During the Course of the Training Contract
You will be required to undertake the Professional Skills course and a number of electives which will be agreed with the Training Principal. As part of our commitment to you we will pay these course fees on your behalf. Over the last twenty years all of our trainees have passed these courses.
During the course of your Training Contract you may be required to work longer hours than the standard working hours to respond to our clients' needs. However, a Training Contract with us not only means that you will have the very best quality training but working in a rural environment gives you the opportunity of enjoying a good quality of life. You should not expect to work the hours required by some of the larger city firms.
Your Application
We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates and will consider each application on its merits, before invitations are offered for interview
We prefer a Curriculum Vitae together with an accompanying letter either by post or email and these should be addressed to Kimberley Fox the Training Principal at our Ely office. There are no closing dates for applications as we have a rolling programme of recruitment.
