Wisbech Schools Careers Convention

MCP Solicitor Helen Robinson and Trainee Legal Executive Laura Chapman had a successful and enjoyable day on 12th March at Wisbech Schools Careers Convention.

We talked to year six students from the local area about MCP, the work we do and the different routes that can be taken for a career in law.

Among the questions asked by students were:-

  1. Do you enjoy your job?
  2. What qualifications did you need to do your job?
  3. Is your job difficult?
  4. What hours do you work?

We spent the day talking to students about the parts of our jobs that we enjoy the most and the parts that we find more challenging. Whilst we work in different areas of the law we both said that the best part of our job was how rewarding it can be to help people.

During the day we also asked students to come up with ideas for what laws they would want to make. Unsurprisingly many students thought that there should be three day weekends and no more school! The three day weekend is something which we are sure a lot of people would support! On the other hand we are not sure how many people would get behind one student’s suggestion of no more pubs and no more than 3 sweets per day!

We were also refreshed and encouraged that among the most popular laws suggested were that there should be no more bullying, people should treat other people kindly and that there should be no harming of animals or nature.

Students also demonstrated their knowledge of right and wrong with many stating that there should be further laws against taking drugs, drink driving and fighting.

A great day was had by everyone involved and we look forward to supporting our local schools again next year to continue inspiring students and helping them decide what they want to be in the future.
