On Thursday 10th July MCP Solicitors joined with Whiting & Partners Accountants to provide another breakfast seminar for local businesses. The event took place at the South Fens Business Centre in Chatteris and was well attended by a variety of local businesses from farmers to office suppliers and engineers.

MCP Lawyer Specialises in Children's Work

Lyn Jahangir, a Legal Executive Advocate at MCP Solicitors' Wisbech office, has had her membership to the Law Society's Children's Panel renewed. Lyn Jahangir was the first legal executive in England to be admitted to the Panel five years ago and is extremely proud of this achievement.

 

Crime Department Expands

MCP Solicitors' Crime Department is growning yet again! Nigel Taylor, an experienced Police Station Advisor and Crown Court Litigator, has recently joined the King's Lynn office to work on all areas of Criminal law.

 

New Portuguese Lawyer for MCP Solicitors -

The Thetford branch of MCP Solicitors has welcomed a new member to their team - Portuguese lawyer Paula Fernandes. Paula is a Portuguese legal consultant who did her training in Lisbon and is now with MCP Solicitors helping the Portuguese speaking population of East Anglia with their legal issues.

 

Family Lawyer Joins Resolution

Robert Colwell, a Solicitor in MCP's King's Lynn Family Department, is now a full member of Resolution Family Lawyers, having completed a "Code of Conduct" course.

 

Law Society President Visits MCP Solicitors

Law Society President Andrew Holroyd took a break from his work at the National Law Society in London by visiting solicitors in King's Lynn, including Metcalfe Copeman & Pettefar on Wednesday 20th February 2008.

Head Of Criminal Department Offers Advice To Potential Lawyers - 3rd December 2007

Alison Muir, Head of the Criminal department, has been featured in the national publications Lawcareers.net and The 2008 Training Contracts and Pupilage Handbook.

 

HIPs Expand To Almost All Homes - 30th November 2007

From 14th December 2007 Home Information Packs (HIPs) will be required for 1 and 2 bedroom properties in England and Wales. This extends their current use on 3 bed or larger properties.

Pleural Plaques Appeal Dismissed - 17th October 2007

The House of Lords has dismissed an appeal in a test case that compensation should be paid to victims who have developed pleural plaques i.e. scarring of the lungs, an asbestos related disease.

 

King's Lynn Family Department Gains New Lawyer - 19th September 2007

Robert Colwell, a solicitor in MCP's Family Department, is moving office from Wisbech to King's Lynn. Robert works on most areas of family law and deals particularly with divorce and children matters such as contact and residence.

 

HIPs Extended To 3 Bedroom Properties - 19th August 2007

The Government has announced that Home Information Packs (HIPs) and Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) will be rolled out to 3 bedroom properties from 10 September 2007.

 

Corporate Manslaughter and Homicide Act Becomes Law- 6th August 2007

The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 was made law on 26 July 2007. This deals with gross negligence by an organisation leading to a person's death.

 

MCP Hold Law Surgery In Long Sutton - 24th July 2007

MCP are now holding a law surgery in Long Sutton every fortnight. They will take place in Fenland Financial Services every other Thursday from 21st June 2007.

 

NICE U-Turn Over Asbestos Cancer Drug - 13th July 2007

Last July NICE withdrew Alimta, a drug for people with the asbestos-related cancer mesothelioma. Now a new NICE draft has indicated that, following a review, Alimta can be used for patients with advanced Mesothelioma.
